This class covers general concepts in these areas of law in English-speaking, Common Law countries, which use the adversarial system. The class covers the historical position and then more detailed subjects such as the law of marriage, divorce, child care and the protection of spouses. The part on criminal law covers the elements of a crime and defences.

Evaluation is by written exam (1h).
